Elder caregivers arrested for stealing clients jewelry

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Two caregivers have been arrested after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry from an elderly couple they were supposed to be helping.

Gwinnett County police said the investigation began on Oct. 16 when they were notified of $6,000 worth of jewelry stolen from the victims’ Lawrenceville residence.

Woman tortured for hour in brutal home invasion

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Police are investigating a home invasion in which a mother was brutally beaten and robbed by three men.

Milagros Vasquez-Cid, 40, tells 11Alive’s Ryan Kruger she walked her daughter to the bus stop Thursday morning. When she returned home, one man attacked her on her front porch and forced her inside where two others were waiting.

“They said, ‘where’s my money?’” Vasquez-Cid said.

Funeral services set for brothers killed in crash

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Funeral services have been set for two Gwinnett County brothers killed in a car accident on their way to school.

A joint funeral will be held at noon Saturday at the Lawrenceville Church of God for 17-year-old Jared Brown and his brother, 15-year-old Jaison.  A viewing will be held Friday night at the church.

The brothers were involved in a wreck on their way to Dacula High School on Oct. 30.

Jared was killed, and Jaison passed away from his injuries later that night.

Arrest made in suspected Lawrenceville arson

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Gwinnett County authorities have arrested a man in connection with a suspicious house fire.

Cliff Malone was wanted in connection with the fire last month at a Lawrenceville home.

Investigators spoke with Malone during a traffic stop shortly after the fire, but he was not arrested until Monday.

A motive for the fire has not yet been released, though authorities say Malone was acquainted with the home owner.

Female pedestrian killed in Lawrenceville Monday evening

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (WXIA) – Police were investigating a fatal accident that left an female pedestrian dead Monday evening.

Gwinnett County Police Corporal Deon Washington said it happened in the 1300 block of Pleasant Hill Road.

Witnesses said the woman was struck by two different drivers. Police said that all parties are accounted for, but that it was not clear whether or not the victim was in a crosswalk when she was struck. 

Police did not indicate whether or not charges would be issued in the incident.

Stepfather says teen went 'completely psycho' before police shooting

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- 11Alive has learned new information about the Gwinnett County police shooting of a teen who was armed with a knife.

The new information comes from the teen's own stepfather.

He told 911 his stepson was threatening everyone and had just stabbed his little brother.

When 11Alive called the teen's stepfather, he declined to comment except to say he believes his stepson will survive.

But he had much more to say to 911 just minutes before a Gwinnett County police officer arrived and shot his armed stepson in the parking lot of Sugar Hills Apartments.
