SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Mason Hunt will never forget the opening weekend of the 2011 high school football season. The same weekend that he leads South Gwinnett against state powerhouse Lowndes, he and his family lose everything in a house fire.

Mason was due to start the season at safety but Jordan Ramey suffered a broken arm during a pre season scrimmage and Hunt became the starting quarterback for the season opener against Lowndes. That same weekend lightning struck the Hunt home and everything was loss in a fire.

The South Gwinnett Touchdown Club and the Snellville Community has rallied around Mason and his family and the restoration of their home is already underway. Mason's and his family are living with relatives for now, but he hasn't missed a beat on the field or in the classroom. South Gwinnett Head Coach John Small is proud of the way Mason has handled it all.

If you would like to help the Hunt Family you can do so at any Wells Fargo Bank . Contributions should go to the South Gwinnett Football Hart Family Assistance Fund.

The Comets will play region rival Shiloh this Friday night.
