GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Twelve Gwinnett County high school seniors have been named 2013 Gates Millennium Scholars, the school district announced Monday.

These exceptional students are among only 1,000 Gates Millennium Scholars nationwide.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program grants full scholarships to some of the country's top minority students. To qualify for the prize, a student must earn high grades, be involved in extracurricular and community activities, and display a need for financial assistance.

Funds for the scholarship program come from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Gwinnett's Gates Millennium Scholars will be honored Friday, May 10 at a special ceremony. They include:
