Gwinnett Co. man pleads guilty to pimping teen wife


LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – A 29-year-old Gwinnett County man was sentenced to six months in jail on charges that he pimped his 18-year-old wife.

According to Megan Matteucci from the Gwinnett County Solicitor's Office, Delorean Gibson was arrested in March as part of a human trafficking investigation. Undercover officers said they made contact with the 18-year-old woman after seeing her in an online ad for sex.

The officer allegedly paid the woman $90 for 30 minutes of sexual activity at a Norcross motel. After the woman received the cash, she slid the money under the motel bathroom door to Gibson, Matteucci said.

Police arrested Gibson and the woman. They also seized cash and marijuana from Gibson authorities said.

Car crashes into framing business in Lawrenceville


LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- A driver was injured after slamming a car into a Lawrenceville business Monday morning.

The accident happened shortly after 11:30 a.m. at Discount Picture Framing in the 940 block of Buford Drive, just north of Morningside Drive.

Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said a car left the road and drove through a plate glass window in the front of the building. The store was open at the time, but no one inside was hurt.

The driver was trapped inside the car after the accident and had to be freed by firefighters. Rutledge said the driver was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. No one else was inside the vehicle.

The Lawrenceville Police Department will investigate the accident.

Gwinnett police report tells different story in officer-involved death


ATLANTA -- 11Alive News has obtained new information in a death investigation involving Gwinnett Police officers.

On July 11, 35-year-old George Mann died while in the custody of Gwinnett County Police. The investigation was immediately turned over to the GBI; the day after Mann's death, the agency said in an initial statement that Mann became unresponsive soon after being drive stunned with a Taser, and later died.

But in a Gwinnett County police report, newly obtained by 11Alive News, there is no mention of a Taser ever being used.

Officers responded to a home on Rock Place Drive after a 911 call that Mann had been acting strangely. In the descriptive two-page narrative, the officer describes Mann yelling from inside of a neighbor's closed garage, shouting "let me out of here" and "I'll shoot all of you."

Surveillance video shows restaurant robbery


SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Gwinnett County Police hope the public will recognize the two men who robbed a restaurant manager at gunpoint.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. on July 19, the manager of the Golden Corral on Stone Mountain Highway was about to leave for the night.

Two men, both wearing hoodies and wielding guns, rushed the manager and pushed him back inside.

Police: Real estate agent attacked by man wearing women's clothing

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Police have filed charges against a man who allegedly attacked a real estate agent in Gwinnett County on Wednesday. Jeffrey Wayne Shumate, 38, is charged with Aggravated Assault, False Imprisonment and Battery.

According to Gwinnett County Police, the real estate agent said she was contacted by Shumate who said he was interested in vewing a home that is for sale. The woman agreed to meet him at the house in the 4200 block of Sugarloaf Parkway. Police said when the Shumate showed up he was wearing women's clothing and a wig.

Smiling suspect accused of stealing 26 phones


GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- It didn't take investigators long to identify a suspected cell phone thief who was all smiles while she was cashing in her stolen goods.

The suspect who stole 26 cell phones during a car break-in was caught on camera selling the phones for cash.

Gwinnett County Police said shortly after they released a picture of the suspected thief they began to receive numerous tips that led to her identity.

Authorities say the woman is 17-year-old Taylor Soojung Kim. Police say that she has been interviewed by investigators, and that other people may be involved in the crime.

The theft happened June 21, when the car was parked in the 1300 block of Christiana Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The victim, Erika Ramirez, is a manager for a Cricket Wireless in Duluth and she told police she was preparing for a promotional event when she discovered the theft.

Mother battling flesh-eating bacteria expected home soon


GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – A Gwinnett County mother battling aggressive flesh-eating bacteria is expected to return home in a few weeks.

Cindy Martinez, a 34-year-old former Marine, has been in the hospital for the last two months. She was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis in late May. She recently underwent multiple amputations of her lower legs, right arm and left hand.
