Help Desk: U.S. Marine double billed twice for travel | News
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Today is Veterans Day and for one veteran trying to get home for the upcoming holidays, it's been a nightmare.
The cause of that nightmare: one U.S. Marines serious debt issues and a big mix-up with his travel arrangements.
U.S. Marine PFC Philip Loumakis was granted a last minute leave to come home to Lawrenceville from a base on the West Coast, but it nearly shut down his bank account and could have cost him his credit rating.
Loumakis went online to travel website Globester to get the best airfare.
He bought a roundtrip ticket, and then the trouble started.
"He went to his bank account they had charged it through Delta and then within minutes another charge for the same amount," Carol Loumakis, his mother said.
Loumakis had been double billed.
"The next morning it was credited back to his account but then within 12 hours that same day they charged it again as an agent fee, the same $562.80," she said.
Both Loumakis and his mom kept calling Globester but say they got nowhere. She said her son kept calling from his Marine base.
"They ended up not taking his calls. They would hang up or put him on hold and never come back," Ms. Loumakis said.
Then she started calling.
"They put me on hold and 15 minutes later they still had not come back to the phone and then when I tried to cal back they did not answer," she said.
The Help Desk repeatedly called Globester to get answers. And it wasn't easy. Our Help Desk reporter, Bill Liss, had to call the company five times before getting a response.
Within 30 minutes we got Loumakis a full refund on the so-called service charge, along with a written email confirmation.
