NORCROSS, Ga. -- Officers of the Gwinnett County Police Department found a man shot dead when they responded to a burglary report on Monday, September 2.
According to the caller, the burglary was happening at a home in the 900 block of Falling Water Lane in unincorporated Norcross.
Officers arrived to the home around 5:15 a.m. to find a man had been shot and killed, Cpl. Jake Smith said. The victim was identified Friday as 27-year-old Bryan Ritzert of Lawrenceville.
Smith said Ritzer's roommates told officers that they heard a commotion overnight before the shooting took place, but they did not discover the burglary or homicide until later.
Officers determined that someone forced his way into the home, possibly to commit a robbery.
Detectives will continue to investigate.
