Parents find strength in community, church family after teens killed in tragic wreck

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Despite all they’ve been through Jared and Jaison Brown’s parents made it to the Lawrenceville Church of God for Sunday service - the church where those two young men grew up.

“You know words like horrific and devastating doesn’t seem powerful enough to describe,” Pastor Kevin Harris said.

“There’s a lot of agony angst but there’s more hope and trust in God than anything else,” he said.

That was never more evident than Sunday morning.
A mere hours after losing their two teenage sons to a devastating car crash, Paul and Merrill Brown and their family took part in the service at Lawrenceville Church of God.

“It speaks a lot about their faith and as Ii hugged them a moment ago and thanked them for being here,” Pastor Harris said. “It’s built my faith to see them worshipping in the house of God through their brokenness. [It] is a powerful statement about who they are.”

A PT Cruiser smashed into their vehicle. Jared died shortly after the crash. Jaison died later that evening after several surgeries.

It’s news that has absolutely rocked the Dacula High School community.

“They were exceptional young men and all the students and all the faculty and all their coaches have all said the same thing,” Pastor Harris said. “But it’s true even from the perspective of their pastor they just lit up the room.”

And although the light has dimmed, it’s evident their lives will continue to inspire those who knew them best.
