New execution date set for Kelly Gissendaner
News

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (WXIA) -- The Gwinnett County Superior Court has issued an order setting a new execution date for convicted killer Kelly Gissendaner for a window beginning September 29 at noon.

Gissendaner's execution had been previously postponed twice earlier this year -- once in late February and a second time in early March. The February execution date was postponed due to a winter storm in the area, which prevented everyone from making it to the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison in Jackson, where death chamber is housed, and the state's executions take place.

The March execution date was postponed after problems emerged with the drug to be used for the lethal injection. The drug, pentobarbital, had a cloudy appearance, prompting officials to postpone the execution "out of abundance of caution."
