Snellville Zaxby's damaged in Friday fire

SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Fire at a Snellville chicken eatery, Friday night, could put the restaurant out of commission – at least for a while.

Firefighters responded at 7:22 p.m., to reports from employees of a grease fire in the kitchen at the Zaxby’s restaurant located on the 3900 block of Stone Mountain Highway Southwest.

Crews found smoke showing from the front door of the restaurant on arrival.  The building was already evacuated and there were no injuries reported.  Firefighters deployed two attack hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire.

The blaze caused extensive damage to the kitchen and smoke and water damage was present throughout the dining room.  There was only slight fire extension in the attic of the building, fire officials said.

Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and stopped the spread of the fire containing it to the kitchen.

The business was open at the time and an employee and patron tried to douse the fire with portable fire extinguishers, but were unsuccessful.

The business will be closed until repairs and cleanup can be made to the interior of the restaurant.  There was no visible damage to the exterior of the structure.

At this point, the cause of the fire is still under investigation but appears to be accidental from grease that ignited in a fryer in the kitchen.
