News

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Three Gwinnett County children called police after their parents died in a murder-suicide Friday morning.

Detectives were dispatched to a house in the 400 block of Laurelton Circle at around 12:40 a.m. When they arrived, they spoke with the children -- ages 8, 14 and 16 -- who live in the home.

The children told police their parents got into a physical altercation. During the fight, the mother, 43-year-old Paula Gonzalez, retrieved a handgun and fired several shots at the father, 51-year-old Lucio Jimenez.

Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Deon Washington said Jimenez was killed in the gunfire, while the couple's daughter was grazed by a bullet. The daughter was transported to an area hospital with a superficial wound.

After killing her husband, Gonzalez fatally shot herself, Washington said. The couple had been married almost 20 years.

The children are staying with family members. Washington said DFCS is involved in the shooting investigation.

Detectives are now working to determine what led to the shooting.
