LOGANVILLE, Ga. -- The lockdown on J.C. Magill Elementary School and neighboring Grace Snell Middle School in Gwinnett County has been lifted.
According to Sloan Roach of Gwinnett County Schools, some teachers and students were on the playground of J.C. Magill when they saw someone in the woods nearby. Shortly after seeing the individual, they heard sounds like those of gunshots.
Shortly after, Cpl. Jake Smith said an officer found fireworks in the woods. Police think teenagers were playing with firecrackers, causing the sounds.
At the time, all students were taken into the elementary school and both schools were put on lockdown. Roach said the lockdown was taken only for precautionary reasons.
The lockdown began around 3:20 p.m., around the same time the schools let out. Parents who were waiting outside to pick up their kids are now able to take them from the schools.
