Music for Missions invites a music virtuoso to perform a special concert at UMC

Lawrenceville, GA --  Music for Missions is a 12 year project of United Methodist Men and will present Andrew Fazackerley  in the 189th concert.

Andrew Fazackerley is a keyboardist, pianist, composer, organist, arranger, producer, and bandleader. He loves entertain his audiences withall styles of music in the same concert– from Bach on the pipe organ to contemporary music on the synthesizer he is a marvel to hear.
He has released several of his own recordings, including a solo piano album of jazz standards and original compositions entitled “Our Love Is Here To Stay.” His latest CD, “The Ballad Of Norman Forest,” features about 30 of Atlanta’s finest musicians.

LAWRENCEVILLE-- There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

The Aurora Theatre is hosting a play called, “Over the River and Through the Woods” about Hoboken, New Jersey, an Italian-American neighborhood with a tradition of eating dinner at the Gianelli’s house. It continues through June 5.  

The Mutts & More Festival boats entertainment for families and their pets and is being presented by the Humane Society of Forsyth County. The Humane Society in conjunction with Petco Foundation and Rucker Pet will also host a Bark After Dark event, complete with music and dining. The event takes place at the Cumming Fairgrounds and starts at 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Check out the Duluth Art Walk on June 3. The walk offers more than 30 pieces of original art that will be given away.

Loganville, GA --  LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is mounting a campaign today (May 31, 2011) to increase the blood supply in local hospitals.  Each of LifeSouth’s regions is challenging the local communities to come and donate blood. 

“Blood donated to LifeSouth stays in the local communities we serve”, said Michael Becker, LifeSouth Georgia Community Development Coordinator.  “Donors know when they selflessly provide blood to LifeSouth Community Blood Centers that they are helping relatives, neighbors and friends in their local areas”.

On May 31st, LifeSouth will have bloodmobiles at 2 Wal-mart locations from 11am-5pm.

The Gwinnett Daily Post will host their annual “Gwinnett Daily Post Memorial Day Concert” at the Suwanee Town Center Park. The concert is a family event and the military band will provide the tunes.  

Basketball teams from across the state will compete in the Bobby Hussey Memorial Day Classic at the Suwanee Sports Academy. The classic is one of the premier summer basketball tournaments in the nation.

Visit the Athens Farmers Market and partake in the celebration and showcase of local foods. The Athens Farmers Market offers local and artisan products from local famers.

Summit to make case for transit to northern suburbs

ATLANTA -- Three locals chambers of commerce have planned a summit to make a business case for transit into the suburbs.

The Metro Atlanta Northern Crescent Transit Summit will be from 7 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 8 at the Cobb Galleria Centre (2 Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, 30339).

The event, presented by Jacobs and Siemens, features national elected and technical experts from North Carolina and New Mexico, as well as representatives from the Chambers of Commerce of Cobb, Gwinnett and North Fulton.

Attendees will learn about potential game-changing, high-capacity transit lines that will significantly reduce traffic congestion while strengthening economic development assets in the northern suburbs.

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's (GHCC) Annual Awards Gala which was held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta, hosted by Macy's, UPS, Delta Air Lines... just to name a few. I was even surprised to see Lockhead Martin's table next to ours!

LAA to Host Copa Latina de Atlanta: Fútbol, Familia y Fiesta at the Atlanta Silverbacks Park

Doraville, GA --  (English Below)  La Asociación Latinoamericana (LAA por sus siglas en inglés) invita la comunidad a participar en su segundo torneo benéfico, Copa Latina de Atlanta: Fútbol, Familia y Fiesta, organizado en colaboración con Univision 34 de Atlanta. Ya inició el registro de equipos, y el evento se llevará a cabo en el Parque de los Atlanta Silverbacks e incluirá actividades recreativas y entretenimiento gratis para toda la familia.

Adultos, adolescentes y jóvenes pueden jugar en el torneo y habrá divisiones para hombres, equipos mixtos y mujeres. Cada jugador recibirá una camiseta y hay dos juegos garantizados. Campeones del torneo recibirán un trofeo, dinero en efectivo y otros premios. Costo del registro: equipos individuales: $250; equipos de jóvenes (11 – 14 años): $140; equipos corporativos: $350.

 Participación en la Copa Latina de Atlanta apoyará los programas y servicios que la Asociación Latinoamericana brinda a la comunidad latina.
