LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The popular "The Elf on the Shelf" franchise is the inspiration for an upcoming family event in Lawrenceville.

An "Elf on the Shelf" dinner and dance will be held at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7.

Kids can eat dinner, dance and enjoy a visit from the Big Elf. Admission is $9, which includes dinner and dessert, music, a child-friendly craft and a souvenir photo with Santa.

This event is appropriate for children ages 3 and up. All kids must be accompanied by adults.

"The Elf on the Shelf" is the brainchild of metro Atlanta resident Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell. Together, they created the story of elves who are recruited by Santa Claus to "spy" on children and make sure they are being good.
