Come celebrate America Recycles Day with the Gwinnett County Solid Waste Division on Saturday, April 14 from noon to 2:00pm at Coolray Field, home of the Gwinnett Braves. This free event will feature paper shredding, household battery and paint collection (limit 5 one-gallon cans per vehicle; dried-up paint is acceptable), kids' activities, and more!

Gwinnett County -- Sustainable Gwinnett is concerned about managing hazardous household waste within Gwinnett County.  Throughout the year they hold workshops and sponsor recycling events.  They are currently offering tips for a clean and safe Spring Cleaning.

Spring is quickly approaching, and along with warmer weather comes spring cleaning. This is a good time to get to the back of the closet or to that top shelf to clear out the old and make way for the new. Now that everything has been sorted in the keep, donate, and throw away piles, what do you do with the stuff that you can't put in the garbage, like that half-used can of flamingo pink paint or old batteries from your Walkman?  

ATLANTA -- Jud Turner has been appointed director of the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

The DNR board made the appointment official this week after Gov. Nathan Deal nominated Turner for the post.

Turner replaces F. Allen Barnes, who is leaving to work in the private sector.

Turner is a founding partner in the law firm Turner, Bachman & Garrett LLC and public affairs firm Georgia360 LLC. He was former Gov. Sonny Perdue's lead attorney and represented the governor during negotiations with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service during the state's severe drought.

Turner has also served as general counsel to the Georgia Department of Education.
