1 building on Ga. Gwinnett College remains closed after explosion

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — One building on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett College remains closed after an explosion happened in a bathroom on the campus Monday morning, injuring a woman. According to the school's president, foul play is not suspected.

Driver charged in crash that killed baby, father

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – Charges have been filed against a driver in a crash that killed an 11-month-old baby and his father.

The wreck happened on Feb. 11 near the intersection of McKendree Church Road and McKendree Park Lane in Lawrenceville.

According to police, a Honda Accord crossed into a lane and struck a Toyota Camry. Sean Lowe, 29, died in the crash. Eleven-month-old Cameron Lowe died 10 days later.

The driver of the Camry, 26-year-old Shana Fisher-Williams and her 11-month-old son Cameron Lowe were taken to the hospital. Cameron Lowe died 10 days later.

Police rescue missing 82-year-old from creek

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- A missing person's case came to a swift resolution Sunday morning.

According to Gwinnett police, a granddaughter called police after her 82-year-old grandfather went missing from their home in the 1700 block of Green Oak Circle. The granddaughter told dispatchers Sigun Yan typically needs a wheelchair or cane to get around the house and was concerned when she saw the wheelchair but didn't see him.

"His wheelchair is in the house and he's gone," she says in the 911 call. "I usually say goodbye to him before I go (to work) and I can't find him," Joy Cao later told 11 Alive News.

She told dispatchers she last saw him after she made breakfast around 8:30 that morning. After searching the neighborhood and talking with neighbors, she called 911.


Cops search for man who shot 6-yr-old riding his bike

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Police said a 6-year-old is recovering from injuries after he was shot in the chest during a neighborhood party.

Police said Ni-Shawn Moore, 6, was riding his bike when "someone approached him and shot him in the upper chest," in front of a house on Saturday.

According to police, the boy was riding his bike on Caboose Court when the stranger reportedly came from the backyard of a home and shot him with what he described as a BB gun. The boy then went to his mom, Shannita Harrington, who called police.  

Inmate among 3 charged in scam that cost local woman thousands

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office investigation has tied another Georgia inmate – and prison – to a phone scam.  And this one cost a local woman thousands.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office arrested 22-year-old Marissa Eastwood of Lilburn with theft by deception and 24-year-old Chelsea Allyse Guevara for conspiracy to commit theft by deception in connection with a phone scam that costs a Gwinnett County woman $3,800.

But they weren’t the only suspects connected to the incident. Another one, 26-year-old Autry State Prison inmate Nicolas Brady Kennedy, is also named in a warrant for conspiracy to commit theft.

14-year-old charged as an adult in pizza homicide

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Police have arrested two people in the shooting death of a pizza delivery driver.

Gwinnett County Police have charged 21-year-old Jermaine Young and a 14-year-old Reginald Lofton with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Armed Robbery for the murder of Shane Varnadore. Lofton will be tried as an adult.

Varnadore, 28, was killed shorty after midnight on March 2 at an apartment complex at which he was delivering pizza. His body was found in the complex, located in the 1400 block of Herrington Road, after police received a shots fired call.

Gwinnett Co. moped accident leads to surprise finds in ER

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- A serious accident involving a moped in Gwinnett County, Wednesday, turned into much more when officers and medics investigated.

The accident happened at the intersection of Sugarloaf and Villa Ridge parkways where officers found the rider of a white moped suffering serious injuries.

The rider, Robert Burdette, 46, of Tucker was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Burdette ran a red light and crashed into the side of a Toyota Corolla that was attempting a left turn onto Sugarloaf Parkway. The driver of the car was not injured

However, back in the emergency room, personnel made several surprising finds on Burdette.

The first was a white, crystal-like substance on his clothes, police said.

Charges filed in accident that killed dad, baby

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Gwinnett County Police Department has filed charges in a deadly accident.

Michael Schick, 26, is charged with two counts of Felony-Vehicular Homicide in the 1st Degree, two counts of Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, DUI-.08, Speeding and Failure to Maintain Single Lane.

On Feb. 11, Schick was behind the wheel when police say his 2002 Honda Accord crossed into oncoming traffic, and struck a 2011 Toyota Camry carrying a family of three.

The dad, 29-year-old Sean Lowe, died in the crash.

The mom, 26-year-old Shana Fisher-Williams, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. She is still recovering.

The baby, 11-month-old Cameron Lowe, died on Feb. 21 of his injuries.

Suspects stole handicapped man's car

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga -- Police are still looking for two men who stole a handicapped man’s car along with other vehicles from a custom body shop in Lawrenceville.

Professional handicapped golfer Dennis Walters was having his car customized for accessibility at QCA Customs on West Crogan Street when it was stolen early Wednesday morning.
