LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- A local cosmetology student is now officially one of the nation's most talented aspiring makeup artists.

Brittany Ashley Alexander, who attends the Gwinnett campus of Empire Beauty School (1455 Pleasant Road, Lawrenceville, 30044), placed fifth in the Nail Artistry category at the 2011 Empire Beauty School Future Professionals Expo Competition.

"There is no question that Brittany has the talent and motivation necessary to succeed as a nail pro and we expect her to have her pick of fabulous job opportunities when she graduates from Empire Beauty School," said Frank K. Schoeneman, CEO of Empire Education Group.

Over 2,400 students from Empire's 102 schools across the country attended the event in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where winners and runners-up were awarded thousands of dollars worth of prizes that will benefit them in their chosen careers.

Winners in Brittany Ashley's category received trophies and such awards as $500 AMEX gift cards and professional gift sets from Odyssey Nail System and Creative Nail Design.

"We are amazed every year at how high a level these students are competing at," Schoeneman said. "Competition really allows students to super-charge their skill development and tap into the excitement and creativity of the beauty industry. And this competition was fierce."

Brittany Ashley accepted her honor at a rollicking awards ceremony where thousands of students and faculty cheered for her.
