County Extends Study of Ronald Reagan Parkway

Gwinnett County Commissioners agreed Tuesday to extend a contract to study a proposed three-mile extension of Ronald Reagan Parkway that would connect it to Georigia's Interstate 85.

Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc. has requested additional time, at no extra cost, to continue discussions with the county, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration about how and where potential access points to I-85 could be built.

Results from preliminary studies will soon be available.

Gwinnett DOT Director Brian Allen thinks, "This project is still in a pre-development phase to determine if it is necessary and feasible.

Two Georgia Teams Crack USA TODAY Super 25 Poll

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- By beating Bob Jones (AL) on August 28, North Gwinnett became the first Georgia team to crack the USA TODAY Super 25; the Bulldogs debuted last week at 17th in the nation. One week later and Georgia teams are getting even more respect.

North Gwinnett took care of nationally-ranked team Crenshaw (CA) , beating the Los Angeles team 17-12.  That win takes the Bulldogs to 3-0 and 15th in the Super 25. Crenshaw is now 0-1.

Camden County had a big 45-42 win over Miami Central (FL), which was ranked second in the country. Senior kicker Matt Ehasz hit a game-winning 19-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Wildcats from unranked to the 7th spot in the nation. Miami Central dropped to 24th in the same poll.

A Look Back at Week Two's Prep Football Predictions

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Massey Matchups predicted some of Georgia's top games last week, including Atlanta.HighSchoolSports.net's Game of the Week.

Mountain View was predicted to beat Archer 35-27 last Friday, which was reasonable considering the Bears topped the Tigers twice last season. But this was a different year and ultimately a different result. Archer proved the computer wrong, beating Mountain View 17-14.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- With 57.8 percent of the fan vote, Archer at Mountain View was selected as Atlanta.HighSchoolSports.net's Game of the Week. Both teams are in their first full season of varsity play. Both teams are looking for their first win in 2010. Luckily, Massey Matchups tells us which team will get that first victory.

Gwinnett Beats Durham 6-4: Sweeps Two Game Series

The Lead:  The Gwinnett Braves beat the Durham Bulls 6-4 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC.  The Braves sweep the two game series and win the season series over the IL Southern Division Champions, 12-9.  With the win, the Braves are now 71-69 on the season with three games left to play.  The Bulls are 86-54.

It Was Over When: Braves center fielder Antone Richardson drew a bases loaded walk off of Durham reliever Jake McGee in the top of the eighth.  It broke a 4-all tie and gave the Braves a lead they would never lose.  Barbaro Canizares hit a solo homer in the ninth—his 13th of the season—to provide the final margin of victory.
