Gwinnett County has recieved its allotment of electronic bar code scanners for use in the upcoming November election. The scanners will instantly compare poll book information with a potential voter’s driver’s license identification.

Gwinnett Elections Director Lynn Ledford says, “The current process takes poll workers at least 10 to 15 seconds each to look up voters in the electronic poll book and compare their identification to our records of registered voters".

Voters must still fill out a voter’s certificate at the polling place, and poll workers will still check photo identification.

Study Extended on Connecting Ronald Reagan Parkway to I-85

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- It's going to take a little longer to learn the findings of a study on extending Ronald Reagan Parkway to Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County.

County Commissioners agreed to give Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc. more time to work on the study and continue discussions with the county, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration on how and where to build potential new access points to I-85. The contract extension comes at no cost to the county.

"This project is still in a pre-development phase to determine if it is necessary and feasible," Gwinnett DOT Director Brian Allen said in a statement. "Possible routes and environmental impacts will be studied in the next phase."

A local citizens group has met with project leaders 11 times to review various aspects of the proposal and will continue to be involved along the way.
