Suspect sought in Waffle House armed robberies

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Waffle House restaurants have been the target of two separate armed robberies in Gwinnett County. 

The crimes happened a month apart, both around 5 a.m. The first took place on July 13 at the Waffle House located at 2320 Satellite Boulevard in unincorporated Duluth. The second occurred at the Waffle House located at 1205 Lakes Parkway in unincorporated Lawrenceville on August 17.

In both robberies, witnesses told police that a man walked into the restaurant with a gun demanding money. He then walked behind the counter and stole the entire cash register.

The suspect is described as a man between 20-and-30 years old. He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, dark-colored pants and a dark colored mask.

Police believe he's driving a black four-door car -- possibly a Hyundai Elantra.

Rape suspect arrested in Lawrenceville

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Police have arrested a man accused of rape in Lawrenceville.

On July 30, a woman told police that she was visiting her friend on Northside Drive when another man allegedly pulled out a syringe with an unknown liquid inside of it. The man then allegedly held the syringe against the woman's neck and told her not to make a sound. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her, took $40 and left the house.

After an investigation, investigators identified the suspect as 44-year-old Robert Veit.

On Monday, deputies with the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, took Veit into custody. He was arrested without incident at a local bait shop.

Veit is charged with rape, two counts of aggravated sodomy and false imprisonment.

Police warn against abandoned 911 calls

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Gwinnett County Police say more abandoned calls are being made to the county’s 911, and it’s tying up resources.

According to police, more than one in four of all 911 callers hung up before speaking with the dispatcher.

Father of Emani Moss gets life without parole

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- The father of a 10-year-old girl who was burned and starved to death was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Eman Moss was very emotional during Friday's sentencing hearing. He wept as he read the court a letter he wrote to daughter Emani, calling her "Angel Face" and saying he loved her.

Moss and his wife Tiffany were arrested and charged after Emani's body was found in November 2013 inside a trash can at the Coventry Pointe Apartments. Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter called Emani's death the worst case of child abuse he'd ever seen.

Felony animal cruelty charge dropped against former Falcon

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga -- Felony charges were dropped against former Falcon linebacker Prince Shembo.

He was charged with felony animal cruelty in May after his ex-girlfriend's dog died from blunt force injuries.

Shembo's attorney Jerry Froelich said his client pleaded to a reduced charge of misdemeanor animal cruelty because he wants to try to get back to playing football.

Mother battling flesh-eating bacteria gets cheerful surprise

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A local woman battling back after becoming infected with flesh-eating bacteria has some good news to share.

Cindy Martinez, a 34-year-old former Marine, has been through multiple emergency surgeries after being diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis in late May. Doctors amputated her feet and a hand in June.
